Grandma's Prayer is written and performed by Peg Elia. It was written for her grandson Mark Shafer who is a sargent in the United States Marine Corp. Peg wrote this when Mark was stationed in Iraq on his second tour. She hadn't heard from Mark in a while and didn't know how to get in touch with him. She thought the Red Cross might be able to help find him so she gave them a call. They were not able to help but they did give her a number for the Marine Corp in Washington which she called. She explained that she had lost touch with her Grandson and would really like to know where he was and if he was ok. She was finally put in touch with "Gunny Crim" who told her he would find Mark and call her back in 24 hours. Peg hung up the phone fully expecting not to hear from the Corp. again. Less than 24 hours later, Gunny Crim called back and said that Mark was in Falugia and was ok. He also told Peg that if ever she lost touch again just to give him a call and he would track him down for her. She took him up on it on several occasions.
One morning as Peg was having her coffee, Marks face appeared to her as if in a very realistic dream. It was so real she spoke out "What is it Mark?" His face faded and the words to this recitation came to here and she wrote them down. Peg found out later that it was at that exact time Marks unit was under heavy mortar fire. Mark is ok and he and Peg keep in touch.
The whole experience was very emotional and inspirational for Peg and now she would like to share it with you. Click on the image of the CD above and listen to the recitation for yourself. Peg would like it if as many service men as possible could hear this. If you know of somebody in the service who might need some encouragement, please download the recitation and send it to them.
